Can I work for MCCS?
If you’re wondering whether you’re qualified or meet the requirements to work for MCCS, look no further. Here is a breakdown of who is eligible for federal employment and the steps MCCS takes to get you started in your new career.
Suitability
A common question is if U.S. citizenship is required for on-base employment. The answer is no. Permanent residents or individuals who have been given an unrestricted social security card are eligible and welcome to apply.
A lesser-known requirement is Selective Service registration. If you were born male after 1959, make sure you registered for the Selective Service between the ages of 18 and 28. If you’re unsure of your status, you can check at any time by visiting www.sss.gov
High School Students
High school students ages 15 and older can work in many of our facilities, such as the pool, golf course, movie theater, or MCX. Just search for job postings on our MCCS Careers site that are labeled “Flex” or “Flexible” and do not have an age requirement listed under the Minimum Qualifications section. A work permit signed by your school is required, and all scheduled hours will be in accordance with CA and Federal Labor Law.
Active Duty, Veterans, and Military Retirees
MCCS loves hiring veterans. All veterans are welcome to apply with a Member 4 copy of their DD-214 showing their discharge status. Military retirees are eligible to apply for any MCCS position 180 days after their date of retirement. However, if an active duty service member is hired before they retire, they can continue working for MCCS as a flexible status employee through the 180-day waiting period.
Active duty service members can also work flexible positions when they are off-duty and have command approval. Flex positions are available in many of our facilities, including the gyms, golf course, and MCX.
Minimum Qualifications
If you see a job posting on our MCCS Careers site that interests you, review the minimum qualifications sections. Make sure your resume includes any relevant experience you have to meet those minimum qualifications. If your resume shows that you meet the minimum qualifications, it will move forward for consideration.
Hiring Preferences for Military Spouses
Did you know MCCS has a hiring preference for military spouses that places you ahead of other minimally qualified applicants for most positions? You must be listed on your sponsor’s orders for that duty station and must indicate on your job application that you are a qualifying military spouse. This preference can be used once per duty station and is applicable to any job NF-3 and below, Crafts & Trades, or Child and Youth positions. For more information on the military spouse preference, visit our blog post. https://miramar.usmc-mccs.org/news/msp
A full description of benefits and privileges for MCCS employees can be found at https://careers.usmc-mccs.org/ along with a full list of our open positions. Just navigate to “prospective employees” and search for Miramar.
