March 2023 MCCS Events


If you’re looking for things to do for March, MCCS has several events coming up this month!

1. Plant Power Challenge starting March 1

Human Performance is hosting a 31-day plant-powered challenge, where participants are challenged to fuel their body with plant-based foods. Part of the challenge includes The Taste Test Kickoff, which takes place on March 1, 11:00am-1:00pm in the HITT Center. This plant-powered challenge includes weekly challenges, a nutrition class, group exercise classes (you can sample each class for free!) and an F45 class. 2. Fair Fighting Workshop on March 2 from 12:30pm-3:30pm

The Family Advocacy program hosts a workshop for couples or individuals to learn effective communication skills, and skills to resolve conflicts and disagreements in relationships. This workshop, which takes place in building 2274 Elrod Avenue covers communication styles, healthy communication, stages of conflict and conflict resolution. 3. Co-Parenting: Putting Kids First 8-Week Course on March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31

This course helps parents stay “child focused” while shielding children from conflict. This course takes place in the Behavioral Health Building on 2274 Elrod Avenue on Fridays from 8:30am-10:00am. For more information and to reserve a date, visit Co-Parenting: Putting Kids First.

4. Tea with Team Building on March 7 at 9:30am

MCFTB offers “Tea with Team Building” where they bring together spouses who want to connect with other spouses to build community and connections. No purchase is required to attend but all Starbucks items purchased are the responsibility of each person. This event takes place at the Team Building Training Center. 5. 10 Steps to a Federal Job Workshop on March 8

The Transition Readiness program hosts this workshop to help authorized patrons navigate through USAJobs and write effective federal resumes. This course takes place in The Hub in building 5305 each month. For dates and to sign up, please visit TRS’s Eventbrite.

 

6. Within My Reach Workshop on Wednesday, March 8 from 8:30am-12:00pm

The Family Advocacy Program offers a workshop about “everything you wish you knew when you first started dating” which takes place. For more information and to register, visit FAP’s Eventbrite for Within My Reach.

7. Food Distribution on Thursday, March 9 from 3:00-5:00pm

San Diego MOM conducts a food distribution, providing food bags for military families every 2nd Thursday of the month at the Bob Hope Theater. Please note that this event is while supplies last and is first come, first served.

8. L.I.N.K.S. Craft and Learn on March 10

MCFTB hosts a Craft and Learn workshop that takes place at the Team Building Training Center in building 2273 from 9:30am-11:30am. This workshop is designed to provide tips and tricks to make it through a deployment or separation (TAD or schools). For more information and to register, visit MCFTB’s Eventbrite.

9. F.I.N.D.E.R.S. 4 Teens on Wednesday, March 15

F.I.N.D.E.R.S. (Friendly -Innovative -Networking -Diverse- Empower- Resilient -Support) is a friendly support group for military youth to get together and feel comfortable sharing experiences and challenges of the military lifestyle. It will provide a safe and welcoming environment for youth to develop lifelong skills. This MCFTB event will take place at the Team Building Training center in building 2273 from 4:30pm-6:00pm. 10. Service Animals 101 on March 16 from 1:00pm-3:00pm

This workshop goes over service animals and the law, the difference between a service animal and an emotional support animal, service animals in public, and information on how to initiate the process of obtaining a service dog. This event will take place in the EFMP (Exceptional Family Member Program) Conference Room in building 2525. Visit EFMP’s Eventbrite to register.

11. Money Talk with Jo on March 16 from 9:00am-10:00am

Personal Professional Development is hosting Money Talk with Jo in collaboration with NFCU. At this event, there will be coffee, snacks, and a conversation of money! Finance subject matter expert, Jo will be answering all questions you might have. This is a part of the Best You Bucket List as well! To register or reserve a spot, visit TRS’s Eventbrite.

12. Warrior Maintenance: Stress Management on Tuesday, March 21 from 8:30am-12:30pm

The Family Advocacy Program offers Warrior Maintenance: Stress Management every third Tuesday of the month, intended to reduce multiple health risk behaviors and to enhance multiple domains of well-being. This workshop teaches effective techniques to handle stressors, communicate and overcome challenges that interfere with stress management.

13. Semper Fit’s Ultimate Fitness Games on March 24 from 11:00am-1:00pm

Semper Fit is hosting the Ultimate Fitness Games at the Miramar Sports Complex! There will be a HITT Challenge (5 exercises), 3 Group Exercise Classes, F45 Playoffs (with 6 prize winners), and Human Performance! Also present will be Yakult Probiotics, Monster, Improv Booze-Free Cocktails, Farm Fresh, TRX and a food truck! This event will take place from 11:00am-1:00pm.

The Group Exercise Classes schedule for this event is:

11:00am – Sculpt yoga with an emphasis on Pilates

11:45am – Zumba

12:30pm – Spin

14. Babysitting Certification Course from March 27-29

This 3-day certification course offered by Marine and Family programs. For more information, contact eledora.guerra@usmc.mil.

15. Education Fair on March 28

The Voluntary Education Program is hosting an Education Fair on March 28 from 10:00am-2:30pm at The Miramar Room in The Hub, building 5305. There will be 30 colleges and universities on site! This event is open to all active duty military members, DoD civilians, veterans, and their families.

16. Spring Paint Party on March 29

The Miramar Station Library is hosting a Spring Paint Party on March 29 from 5:00pm-6:30pm at the Library Makerspace! There will be mocktails and snacks available while you paint! This event is available to authorized patrons ages, 16 and above!
