The Leadership Scholar Program (LSP) aims to assist academically and professionally qualified Marines in preparing for and applying to highly selective colleges and universities across the United States. The goal is to facilitate the efficient achievement of Marines’ educational aspirations.

The staff at the Camp Pendleton Voluntary Education (Vol Ed) Center began assisting Cpl Cameron Skoroda in February 2022 when he reached out to the Vol Ed Center LSP seeking guidance on researching schools offering business administration programs and related fields.

Cpl Skoroda was serving admirably with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, in the role of machine gun squad leader. His commanding officers and peers had consistently noted his social and technical acumen, his high intelligence, and his drive for personal and professional growth. His innate leadership qualities distinguished him from his peers.

Following consultations with the LSP team, Cpl Skoroda collaborated with Service to School and enrolled in classes to enhance his GPA, thereby strengthening his applications to various LSP partner schools. His journey exemplified unwavering determination and commitment to his aspirations. In October 2022, he was admitted to Columbia University and separated from the Marine Corps soon after to attend college.

Cpl Skoroda conveyed this message to the Vol Ed staff. “Currently pursuing a degree in financial economics at Columbia University. As a student veteran, I bring a unique perspective and set of skills to the classroom, including leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to thrive in high-stress environments. My goal is to use my education to excel in the financial industry and make an impact in the business world.”
